Microneedling, RF Microneedling & PRP
Astoria Esthetics offers personalized microneedling treatments in Astoria, Queens, including traditional microneedling, RF microneedling, and treatment plans that may incorporate platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Depending on your skin concerns and treatment goals, microneedling may help improve the appearance of acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, and other signs of skin aging. Your consultation helps determine which approach is most appropriate for your skin.
Microneedling uses a device with sterile micro-needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the skin's natural healing response and promotes new collagen and elastin production.
As the skin remodels over time, microneedling can help improve the appearance of texture irregularities, acne scars, fine lines, and enlarged pores.
Unlike treatments that primarily address the surface of the skin, microneedling works by encouraging gradual collagen remodeling below the surface.
At Astoria Esthetics, your treatment plan is selected based on your skin condition, concerns, medical history, and aesthetic goals.
What Is Microneedling?
Traditional Microneedling
Targets acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture, and fine lines by stimulating collagen production.
RF Microneedling
Combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to address skin texture and mild laxity.
Microneedling With PRP
Combines microneedling with platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood to support the skin’s natural healing response.
What Types of Microneedling Do We Offer?
Depending on the type of microneedling and your individual skin concerns, treatment may help improve the appearance of:
Acne scars — particularly certain types of depressed acne scars
Enlarged pores
Uneven skin texture
Fine lines and wrinkles
Mild skin laxity, depending on the treatment modality
Uneven tone and overall skin quality
Microneedling is not the best treatment for every concern or every type of scar. Your provider will evaluate your skin and recommend the most appropriate option.
What Can Microneedling Treat?
When Will I See Microneedling Results?
Microneedling results develop gradually as the skin heals and produces new collagen.
In general:
First few days: redness, sensitivity, dryness, or mild swelling may occur
First few weeks: skin may begin to look smoother and more refreshed
Following months: collagen remodeling continues and improvements may become more noticeable
Treatment series: multiple sessions may be recommended depending on your concern and desired result
For acne scars and more significant texture concerns, a series of treatments is often more effective than a single session.
Results and treatment intervals vary based on the device used, treatment intensity, skin condition, and individual response.
Is Microneedling Right for Me?
Microneedling may be appropriate for adults looking to improve acne scars, texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, or overall skin quality.
During your consultation, your provider will review your skin, medical history, medications, previous treatments, and aesthetic goals.
SkinPen® activates your body's natural skin-healing power to increase collagen and elastin, so your skin returns to a healthier looking and youthful appearance.
Tell your provider if you:
Have a history of keloid or abnormal scarring
Have a bleeding or clotting disorder
Take anticoagulants or medications that affect healing
Have a weakened immune system
Have uncontrolled diabetes
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Currently take or recently used isotretinoin

Microneedling can be used in people with a wide range of skin tones, but pigmentation changes remain a possible risk. Your provider should evaluate your individual skin type and risk factors before treatmen
What to Expect Before and After Microneedling
Before Your Appointment
Before treatment:
Tell your provider about all medications, supplements, and skincare products you use
Follow instructions regarding retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other active skincare ingredients
Avoid excessive sun exposure and arrive without a fresh tan or sunburn
Tell your provider if you have a history of cold sores
Avoid scheduling other aggressive skin treatments close to your microneedling appointment unless approved by your provider
Do not stop prescription medications or medically necessary blood thinners without approval from the healthcare professional who prescribed them
If PRP is planned, follow any additional preparation instructions provided by your medical provider
During Treatment
SkinPen creates millions of controlled microchannels in the skin.
This jump starts the production of collagen and elastin and encourages the release of growth factors that recruit and increase reparative cells. The result is a cascade of healing processes that can continue for months following your treatment.
The SkinPen treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Depending on whether an anesthetic is used prior to treatment, your entire treatment session may last up to one hour - still plenty of time to schedule your treatment before work or during your lunch hour. Be sure to speak with your provider before you come to get an accurate estimate, so you know how to plan your visit.
After Your Appointment
Temporary redness, sensitivity, dryness, tightness, peeling, swelling, or mild bruising can occur after treatment.
General aftercare may include:
Use only gentle skincare products recommended by your provider
Avoid picking, peeling, or unnecessarily touching treated skin
Protect your skin from direct sun exposure
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen as directed
Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other irritating products until your provider says you can restart them
Avoid intense exercise, swimming, saunas, steam, and excessive heat for the period recommended by your provider
Follow treatment-specific instructions for RF microneedling or PRP
Contact your provider if you develop increasing pain, significant swelling, blistering, signs of infection, unexpected pigmentation changes, or any symptom that concerns you.

-
The number of treatments depends on your skin concern, treatment modality, and individual response. Acne scars and more significant texture concerns often require a series of sessions rather than a single treatment.
-
Traditional microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production. RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency energy beneath the skin, adding controlled heat to the treatment.
-
PRP is prepared from your own blood and contains platelets and growth factors involved in tissue repair. It may be incorporated into some treatment plans when considered appropriate by your provider.
-
A topical numbing product may be used before treatment to improve comfort. Sensation varies depending on treatment depth, device, treatment area, and individual sensitivity.
-
Redness, sensitivity, dryness, or mild swelling are common during the first few days. Recovery varies depending on treatment intensity and whether traditional or RF microneedling is performed.
-
Microneedling can be used across a wide range of skin tones and is often considered an option for patients with darker skin. However, pigmentation changes can still occur, so your provider should assess your individual skin type and risk factors before treatment.
-
Microneedling may improve the appearance of certain depressed acne scars by stimulating collagen remodeling. The type and severity of scarring determine which treatment or combination of treatments is most appropriate.
